I am pleased to share that I attended the @His-GenderGap summer school at the Universidad de Granada, Spain. It was organized in collaboration with @Friedrich-alexander university, Germany and DAAD German Academic Exchange Service to address gender issues in the history and present of the scientific community. It was an enriching and learning experience hearing varied presentations from people across disciplines and geographical boundaries. I am also thankful to the organisers for their comments on my presentation on Sanitary napkins: Technological Developments and Regulation in India. Grateful to Nupur Chowdhury ma'am for introducing this subject to me!

My highlights from participating in this year's American Educational Research Association conference from April 10-12 in Philly:(1) Seeing my best friend from Teachers College, Columbia University and spending the night into the morning talking about personal and academic matters was the highlight of all highlights. We reminisced about the past, savored the present, and planned for the future, all converging to shape who we are today in academia.(2) Our conversation fueled me throughout the next day, starting with co-chairing a symposium, "Constructing Racially-Just Educational Experiences..." with my colleague, Fei Shen, and presenting our work. (3) A special thanks to Hui Li for generously hosting a delightful luncheon, where I had the pleasure of connecting with old and new acquaintances from Hong Kong and the U.S.(4) Meeting with both familiar and new senior scholars was energizing. We discovered shared academic interests that sparked ideas for future collaborations.(5) Reconnecting with a junior scholar who resonated with my younger self motivated me to commit to mentoring her as she navigates her academic path.(6) Meeting with journal editors and book publishers was motivating and reaffirming the directions of my scholarship. (7) Finally, returning to AERA after several years of hiatus infused me with a profound surge of renewed energy. Most importantly, my intentional and serendipitous connections and interactions with junior and senior scholars led to a powerful epiphany for me: I saw my younger self, my present self, and my future self as a scholar, all converging in one transformative moment in time and place.

Announcement: Summer School 2023 on Arab Democratization in the Age of Revolution. Dates: July 9- July 23, 2023. Purpose: The study of democratic transitions in this course deconstructs the problematic through local knowledge while also engaging global examples. It draws, critically and comparatively, from of Latin American, Southern European and Latin American transitions. What should always renew attention to Arab transitions, as in this course, is also the popular postcolonial challenges, identity politics, moral questions about inclusiveness of all kinds of identities (gender-based, tribal, ethnic religious, sectarian, and regional). Lectures supplemented by student-centered activities; coaching students into nuanced appreciation of the dynamics that drive as well as condition political transformation. Among the learning outcomes are critical grasp of diverse routes to democracy and evidence-based awareness of debates within and between transition theories. Critical engagement with these theories’ seminal texts will take place though students’ discussion, course readings, individual and group assessment, and study visits. Theoretically and empirically, the course highlights the complex nature of transitions as well as the distinct nature of Arab democratic processes. "It’s a fantastic feature, something my colleagues and I really appreciate. It brings objectivity to conversations with our schools, departments and academics; and it helps us understand how best to allocate resources to develop certain aspects of the university."i-graduate's Mat Kirby and @N_Ripmeester spoke with Toni Kaila, Specialist for International Affairs at Aalto University, to find out how their university is using data provided by the Student Barometer and actioning student feedback to lead the way in student satisfaction and recommendation.➡ https://bit.ly/3OMQkap

This is the introduction to a special issue based on panel discussions held at the 33rd Annual Conference of the Consortium for Higher Education Researchers (CHER), which was hosted online by the University of Hong Kong. This collection of manuscripts embodies collaborative efforts by higher education researchers to understand topics of relevance to the field. All of the manuscripts are co-authored, with at least one of the authors based at an Asian institution and at least one other based at a European institution. One of the aims of this special issue was to join diverse authors and present a varied set of contributions, and the nationalities represented in this special issue are indeed diverse. However, the main aim was to stimulate collaboration and understanding between higher education researchers across Europe and Asia, thereby building a more integrated and coherent field and creating a forum for continuous learning and development.https://lnkd.in/d_jVvU9S
