So soudcore has been building out their motion line of speakers very fast. And today we’re going to compare Soundcore’s two smallest speakers, the Motion 300 and the Motion 100. Obviously since the Motion 300 is larger and is a 30 watt speaker, its going to get louder and its going to have more bass than the 100… but in this video we’er going to see by how much.
Regarding pricing, the Motion 300 has a retail price of $80 we’re as the motion 100 has a retail price of $60… so both of these speakers are fairly affordable and they’re both good for what you get. Now first theres the design of these speakers, now both of these speakers are small and they’re both easy enough to take on the go with you… however the motion 100 is noticeably smaller than the motion 300. So its is easier to throw the Motion 100 into your back pack or water bottle holder. However, both of these speakers do have built in straps… but these straps are a little different. Now these straps aren’t elastic, but with the 300 you can unbutton it and loop it to something… where as with the 100 you cant. But besides that both of these speakers are very portable and they’re both very durable. They’re both IPX7 rated so water isn’t an issue for either of these two speakers. They both have metals grills on the front and they both have hard rubber bodies. So either of these two speakers aren’t going to have any issue standing up to constant abuse.
Regarding battery life, the motion 100 has an advertised battery life of 12 hours and the motion 300 has an advertised battery life of 13 hours. However these advertised battery life of 12 and 13 hours is with both of these speakers playing at 50% volume with their stock EQs. Real world use with both of these speakers playing at max volume, they’re both good for about 4 hours of playback time.
And with both of these speakers they charge up via a USB C port as they should, but this is the only port that you’ll find on either of these two speakers cause they dont have an audio jack, and you can only use them wirelessly cause cause you can’t use their USB C ports as a wired connection. So just keep that in mind regarding your setup.
But when it comes to connectivity, both speakers can be connected to two devices at a time so that you and a friend can both be DJ. Latency is not an issue for either of these speakers so you can use them to watch videos with on your phone, and when it comes to audio codecs, both speakers have support for SBC, AAC, LDAC which is Sony’s own high res audio codec.
Now what LDAC does is that it give you more detail in your music cause you get 3 times as much data… however if you want to use LDAC you have to be an android user cause iPhones top at AAC and if you do decide to use LDAC that is going to take an additional toll on the battery life.
But with all of that out of the way, lets talk about sound. Now both of these speakers have dual frontward firing drivers and dual passive radiators that shoot out the front and back… the main difference here is that the motion 300 is a 30 watt speakers and the motion 100 is a 20 watt speaker. So the motion 300 will get louder and have more bass than the motion 100… but now we’re going to jump into the soundtest. Both of these speakers are playing while at max volume, the motion 100 is playing with its bass up turned on and the Moiton 300 is playing with its signature EQ.
Sound test
So, I decided to test these two speakers while at max volume cause I feel that you're going to be using these speakers at max volume for most of the time. But more importantly, while at max volume distortion isn’t a problem for either of these two speakers, which is good. Now when it comes to the instrument separation on these two speakers, therye the same, which is to be expected since they’re both from the same family. Overall they sound good but they do sound a little close together. But when it comes to max volume performance, the Motion 300 does get louder than the motion 100 cause the 300 is a 30 watt speaker and the 100 is a 30 watt speaker. Pretty simple. Plainly said, if you go with the 300 you’re going to get more sound.
But finally, lets talk about pairing these speakers up with other speakers. Now with both of these speakers, if you have two of the same speakers, you’ll be able to wirelessly pair them up and get them to play in left and right stereo mode. So your music is going to get louder but its also going to sound more open cause you’ll have one speaker for your left channel and another speaker for your right channel.
However, you can only pair two of the same speakers together, you cant mix and match speakers. So for example, you can’t pair of Motion 100 up to a motion 300 like I have here.
But with all of that being said, both of Soudncore’s smallest speakers are good… but obviously the motion 300 is going to give you more sound cause its a 30 watt speaker versus a 20 watt speaker like the motion 100. Both of these speakers are portable and durable, but with the motion 300, you can more easily attach it to things thanks to its strap. But other than that, there are now huge differences between the 100 and 300… and thats not a bad thing, you’re just getting a lot of value out of the motion 100.
